A long time employee of District 204 recently announced her plans to retire.
Dr. Kathy Birkett's 35 years working for District 204 will come to an end when she retires after the 2014 school year.
Birkett who started as a physical education teacher in the district, climbed the ranks and after her time as principal of Neuqua Valley High School, became the superintendent for Indian Prairie School District 204 in 2009.
In a message issued on the District 204 webpage Birkett states, "I've seen tremendous growth over the years. Our community has expanded, we have built new schools, and our student population has increased significantly. Together, we have been and will continue to be committed to doing what is best for our students in every way."
Birkett has spent her entire education career in District 204.
